When my brother and I took the reigns at Burgess Cellars, our appreciation for our sites and our identity was clear. Our mountainside winery, with such incredible hillside fruit and a rich history dating back to the 1870s is truly remarkable. Only about 4% of Napa Valley wines are from hillside vineyards, and we are all hillside! The altitude, exposure, rocky soils, and air currents make for darker berry flavors with elegant tannins. We are different; we are stronger, we work harder, smarter, and creatively - we are mountaineers!
Not only do we produce distinctive and venerable Cabernet Sauvignon, we grow other varieties with equal success. A blend worthy of a 'Reserve' designation is the best way to display the incredible quality of the diverse varieties our mountain vineyards produce"? The Mountaineer was born in the vineyards, and recognized in Kelly’s cellar. This opulent, complex, and yet hedonistic wine was the result. Yes, there’s Cabernet Sauvignon, but there’s also Petit Verdot, and some low-yielding Syrah in this cuvée. The Mountaineer was born with this 2013 vintage, and is now a part of our flagship portfolio. The press has been wowed by it, and industry professionals too! See, smell, taste, and feel what else our mountain vineyards can do!
